If a person doesn’t trust
in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins by the time
of their physical death, their spirit will go to a place the
Bible calls “hell”, where it will wait to be rejoined
to their body during the second resurrection – the “resurrection
of condemnation” (John 5:29)
– at which time they will be judged and enter “the
lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second
death." (Revelation 21:8)
The Bible also speaks of fallen angels who are in hell waiting
for the final judgment: “For if God did not spare the
angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered
them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment...”
(2 Peter 2:4) The final destination
of those whose sins are not forgiven through Christ is the
lake of fire, a place the Bible also refers to as "the
second death". Revelation 20:6:
"Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first
resurrection. Over such the second death has no power."
